An Update on Our Employment Situation

It's been a while since I have updated everyone on my husband's job search. The search itself is going very slowly. There are just not alot of jobs in our area right now. My husband interviewed two weeks ago for a job he thinks he would have really liked, but he did not get it. It is only the third interview he's had in all these months. One of the three he's had was the phone interview that landed him the part time job he currently has.

A couple weeks ago his boss asked if he could work full time, and of course my husband said yes! So now he is working full time for this company. We are thankful for the extra work and pay. However, there are no benefits and the payrate is so low that he is bringing home half of his former salary and has no days at home to look for other work. So it is a mixed blessing. We choose to see this as one thread in the tapestry God is weaving of our lives, and to be grateful.

Meanwhile, his boss also indicated a desire to hire him directly. This would be WITH benefits and a slightly higher pay rate. Whoo-hoo!!! But they cannot hire him directly until their 6 month contract with the temp agency expires in 3 more months. They explored all their options and there appears to be no way around this. We cannot make it for 3 months on his current salary alone, so we are both exploring the possibility of working extra jobs during the summer to try and make ends meet. He will look for either contract work he can do from home (preferable), or an evening/weekend stocking job or something. We want to finish our own school year here at home (four more weeks!) before I look for a part time job outside the home. This would not have been my first choice, but I am willing to do whatever I can to help us during this time. Another option for me would be to acquire more tutor students, but alot of families are letting tutoring go as they tighten their belts as well.

Please pray with us for discernment, for daily strength, for just the right fulltime job for my husband, if different than the one he has now, and for wisdom as we seek to honor the Lord with our time, our home, and the money He gives us. Honestly, though I trust the Lord for our future, I am very weary of the day to day struggle. I would really appreciate prayer for my energy and for the joy of the Lord to be my strength. Thank you friends!

I am so saddened to hear this. I've been meaning to ask you the status of this job and kept forgetting although it's been on my heart.

Hugs to you Pam. (((Pam))) This sounds like a tough situation and I can understand why you would be weary.

Praying for God's provision for your family. Praying for His guidance and wisdom. Praying for a job for your dh that is a perfect fit. Praying you would see His hand in the midst of all of this working on your behalf.

Thank you for visiting my blog and for your encouragment. I've enjoyed reading yours and especially hearing the funny things your children are saying! Don't you just love it!

Blessings
Leslie

I'm praying for you right now! I just started a second job yesterday. It's a lot to be with the kids all day and then go to work as soon as Mark gets home, esp. since it's five days a week, and I'm still tutoring all day Saturday. At least it's only a temp job! I think that I'll find a very part-time job after this ends. In some ways, it's nice to get out of the house even if it is just to go to work.

It's definitely tight around here as we are now paying for two adoptions, but we're making it. I can't wait until they are paid off! Of course, I'll be ready to adopt again by then :)

Oh Pam, I know you are handling this far better than I would! I always hesitate to "complain" about my little problems because I can just see you rolling your eyes at me, which I think would be comepletely justifiable! This is a mixed blessing, indeed. I'll tell my family and we'll keep praying for every provision! We just want to fix this for you!
Blessings,
Laurie

i will admit, the strain is showing. these last two or three weeks you have really looked weary.

that's not to say you don't always look beautiful - because you do.

i can just see it now.

praying.

Praying for you. I know how weary you feel -- I do, too.
